The Leipzig-based Altered Forms Trio, comprising Scottish pianist-composer Gregor Forbes, bassist Robert Lucaciu and drummer Johannes von Buttlar, play improvised music and original compositions with an equally refined and explosive sound-world: a windy-wild, fluttering, curious, spiky-joyous, brooding post-Cecil-Taylor moodiness, crumble-jazz aesthetic. Formed in 2019, and seasoned by regular concert dates, including collaborations with such luminaries as Steffi Narr, Angelika Niescier, Fred Frith, Gabby Fluke-Mogul and Raymond MacDonald, the trio have established a distinctive place in the German jazz and improvised-music scene. Their avant-garde mentality merges with their joy in spontaneous play and ecstatic energy to bring about a unique force of creativity.
