Gregor Forbes (b. 1993 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a pianist and composer based in Leipzig, Germany. Gregor plays piano in the avant-garde jazz group Altered Forms Trio, and is pianist and composer for Routine Investigation Ensemble. Since 2014, Gregor has been the Artistic Director of Glasgow Experimental Music Series. Since 2021, he has been the Musical Director of the interview-concert series Neues bei Grieg at the Edvard Grieg Begegnungsstätte, Leipzig, working with composer Bernd Franke. In 2019, Gregor was the inaugural recipient of the scholarship and residency of the Hanns Eisler Haus, Leipzig, culminating in the premiere of a large-scale new work, Dissonance of Emancipation, at the Gewandhaus Musica Nova series with Ensemble Avant Garde. Gregor is mentored in composition by Antoine Beuger.

Other recent compositions include Study in Solitudes for the Twenty Fingers Duo and Druskomanija Festival, Vilnius; A Spacious Room for Ensemble01; Diffuse Planes, commissioned by guitarist Martin Steuber; Cançoes de - , commissioned by soprano Filipa Portela; Clouds/After Tiepolo, commissioned by electric guitarist Nuno Pinto; Amour Perdu, commissioned by Duo L’Oro; and Differend, for skilled violinist and two untrained violinists, made possible with a scholarship from Musikfonds.

Gregor is a graduate with MA in Music from the University of Cambridge and with MMus in Composition, with piano and conducting, from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He holds an LRSM of the Royal Schools of Music in classical piano performance. He has given solo recitals as a pianist, and worked extensively in duo with award-winning Portuguese soprano, Filipa Portela, including a concert for Portuguese radio, Antena2.

By day, Gregor works as an editor of contemporary classical music with the esteemed publisher, Edition Peters.
